“Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction Rules
GOPHC’s “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction is designed to promote the breeding of American Paint Horses to both Paint and Quarter Horse owners. As you browse through, we hope you will agree we have an outstanding line-up of Stallions. Let’s have fun! Fun! FUN!
All donated Stallions must be registered with APHA, AQHA, or JC to be eligible for the GOPHC “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction and must stay in compliance with all APHA and GOPHC rules. Foals resulting from a “Spot or Not” Stallion Service must have a dam that is registered APHA, AQHA, or JC and must stay in compliance with all GOPHC rules to be eligible for the futurity. In order for foals to be eligible to show at the “Spot or Not” Futurity, one parent must be a registered Paint Horse.
In the event of the death of the stallion, or if the stallion becomes unable to breed prior to the mare being presented for breeding, the mare owner may transfer their fee to another, unsold GOPHC “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction Stallion.
If a Stallion is sold prior to the successful bidder’s mare being confirmed in foal, we hope the new stallion owner will honor the “Spot or Not” futurity service. If they will not honor the “Spot or Not” Stallion Auction Service, the mare owner may transfer their fee to another, unsold GOPHC “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction Stallion. The original stallion will then go back to an unsold status.
All contractual agreements, guarantees, and expenses are solely between the successful bidder and stallion owner. GOPHC will at no time be held responsible or liable for debts incurred by mare or stallion owners.
GOPHC reserves the right to reject and bar from competition any entry that fails to comply with the futurity rules and conditions.
All horses entered must be a product of an eligible “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction stallion in the entrants’ year of foaling.
The “Spot or Not” weanling futurities are limited to one foal for the stallion owner whose stallion sold and one foal for the mare owner that purchased the stallion service. There are no additional entry fees for the weanling futurity classes.
All Regular and Solid Paint Bred (Breeding Stock) APHA registered foals, resulting from a “Spot or Not” Eligible stallion may compete in the “Spot or Not” Futurities for their eligible yearling and two year old years by paying the appropriate entry fee.
Free Slots
The stallion owner and/or successful bidder may use their free slot for a weanling entry or it may be carried over to an eligible yearling for the halter or longe line futurities. Regardless of the year to be used, all free slot foals must be named by August 15th of their foaling year by notifying GOPHC in writing.
The “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction will be conducted by sealed bids. Each envelope should be clearly marked that it is a sealed bid. Checks must accompany bids. These checks will be returned if bid is unsuccessful. Only successful bids will be deposited. Insufficient funds checks will eliminate that bidder from further participation in the current auction. The Club President must receive all sealed bids no less than 30 minutes before the public bid opening. If a bidder chooses to send a bid by US Mail, the bidder is solely responsible for ensuring it arrives prior to the bid opening. All bids will be opened at the year-end banquet/stallion service auction. In case of a tie bid, the bid with the earliest postmark or noted time will be awarded the breeding.
If a “Spot or Not” stallion service is unsold at the live bid opening, the stallion may be purchased on a first come / first service basis for the stallion minimum until May 31st of the breeding year, or prior to the Stallion owners breeding cut off date. The “Spot or Not” minimum bid is set at $300.00 unless the Stallion owner request a higher minimum bid. Refer to the “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction catalog or GOPHC.com website for minimums and breeding cut off dates on each stallion.
Telephone bids will be accepted providing arrangements are made with a GOPHC board member before the auction. Any interested prospective bidders are encouraged to contact any GOPHC board member if they are interested in bidding by phone. GOPHC will not be held responsible for any connections they are unable to make with prospective telephone bidders. Payment from telephone bidders must be received within 10 days of the auction close.

All stallions must be donated by November 15th to be included in the “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction publication. If a Stallion owner chooses to donate a breeding to the “Spot or Not” Stallion Service Auction after November 15th it is with the understanding that it will be part of the auction but the stallion information will only be available on the website and not included in printed publication
The GOPHC Stallion Service Auction “Spot or Not” minimum bid is set at $300.00 unless the Stallion owner request a higher minimum bid. If the stallion owner requests a higher minimum that is the minimum required to guarantee the stallion for futurity eligibility and is also the amount that will be used for late payment calculations.
If a “Spot or Not” Stallion’s service is unsold at the Bid Opening, Stallion owners may purchase their unsold stallion’s breeding for their listed minimum prior to Jan. 1st of the foaling year, and from Jan. 1st until August 15th of the foaling year for double the individual stallions listed minimum. If the stallion owner purchases their own stallion service they will be eligible for the stallion owners and mare owner’s free slots.
If an owner wishes to donate a stallion after January 1st of the foaling year it must be guaranteed for $1000 or for the full amount of the Stallions advertised fee, whichever is greater. This is considered a ‘Late’ stallion. Late stallions will be accepted until May 31st of the weanling futurity year. A stallion with an advertised fee listed as “Private Treaty” will have a guarantee amount of $1000. All stallions will be placed on the website for viewing as time permits
The stallion owner may transfer their free slot (weanling only) to another foal by the eligible stallion by notifying GOPHC in writing and paying a $100 transfer fee prior to the entry being due.
